Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden
Takasakiyama Natural Zoo is a nature park located in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, on Mount Takasaki. Wild Japanese macaques originally lived on the mountain, and feeding areas were created so visitors can observe the monkeys up close. It is also designated as a National Natural Monument as a habitat for monkeys. The monkeys form groups, and the zoo provides ongoing updates online about which group can be seen. A pedestrian bridge connects the zoo with Umitamago Aquarium, so many tourists visit both. Because many monkeys gather at the feeding area, it is recommended to watch them when you visit. Monkeys may see touching as a threat and attack, so be careful not to touch them. Traveling between the monkey gathering area and the zoo is convenient via the Sarukko Rail, and it is recommended to purchase it together with the admission ticket. From the summit of Mount Takasaki, you can view Mount Yufu, Mount Tsurumi, the Kunisaki Peninsula, and Beppu Bay, which is also recommended. Access to Takasakiyama Natural Zoo is about 20 minutes by bus from Oita Station.
