Takachiho Ranch
Takachiho Farm is an experiential ranch at the foot of the Kirishima Mountains where you can interact with animals such as cows, horses, and sheep raised freely in nature. In the cowshed tour, you can see Jersey cows, Guernsey cows, and familiar black-and-white Holstein cows, and observe the milking process by machine. There is also a barn for very young calves. In the sheep barn, you can view Suffolk and Corriedale sheep up close. You can also tour the milk factory. At the animal interaction area, you may have a chance to touch small sheep. The horse-riding corner offers beginner-friendly “lead-horse” rides as well as “trial riding” and “longer riding” courses, held on weekends only. For dining, the “Makiba Restaurant” is recommended for yakiniku and jingisukan (grilled mutton), and monthly limited dishes are also popular. The food court offers many crowd-pleasing choices such as pizza and diced steak. And a must-try at Takachiho Farm is the soft-serve ice cream. Access: by public transportation, from Kirishima Jingu take a Miyazaki Kotsu bus, get off at “Takachiho Bokujo” bus stop and walk about 4 minutes; or get off at “Hotel-mae” (about 6 minutes on foot), or “Yumemigaoka” (about 9 minutes on foot). By car, it’s about 16 km from Kyushu Expressway “Mizobe Kagoshima Airport IC,” about 16.5 km from Miyazaki Expressway “Takaharu IC,” or about 17 km from “Kobayashi IC.”
