Sakura no Baba Josaien
Sakura-no-baba Josaien is a tourist facility in Kumamoto City that showcases Kumamoto’s history and culture and sells local products. Located near Kumamoto Castle, it’s commonly visited as part of a set sightseeing course with the castle. Facilities include a comprehensive tourist information center, Yuyuza, and Sakura-no-Koji. Yuyuza offers cultural experiences such as trying on period costumes (photo-friendly), palanquin rides, and horseback-archery-related experiences, as well as videos and performances. Sakura-no-Koji is lined with many shops where you can enjoy Kumamoto local cuisine. Popular items like “Homare no Jin-daiko” and desserts are also sold, making it a convenient spot for souvenirs. Volunteer guides are available, so first-time visitors can ask questions and get help navigating Kumamoto. Since you can access it directly from Kumamoto Castle, a good order is to visit the castle first, then stop by Josaien. Access: take the Kumamoto Airport bus to Sakuramachi Bus Terminal, then walk about 10 minutes.
