Sunday market
The Sunday Market (Nichiyo-ichi) is a market held every Sunday in Kochi City, known as “Tosa no Nichiyo-ichi.” The Sunday Market along Otesuji—from Kochi Castle’s Otemon gate to Otesuji street—has a long history dating back to 1690. It spans about 1 km from the Otemon to Otesuji. It is held without fail except during year-end/New Year and the Yosakoi Festival. Items include not only vegetables and fruit, but also Kochi specialties like metal goods and forged blades. It is said to attract about 17,000 visitors per day, drawing everyone from young people to seniors. Most stalls operate in the morning, though some continue into the afternoon. If you want to see everything, go in the morning. You can enjoy street food like freshly fried tempura and 100% fruit juices. Recharge with warm Tosa dialect and the homemade snacks of friendly local women. Access is about a 10-minute walk from Kochi Station.
