Yamashita Udon

Yamashita Udon is a udon shop in Zentsuji City, Kagawa Prefecture, famous for bukkake udon and often called the original bukkake udon shop. Its defining feature is its “shocking” firmness—among the strongest chew in the prefecture—yet it also has mellowness and elasticity that create a great balance. Ginger is provided at the table and you grate it yourself into your udon. While there are multiple Yamashita Udon shops in Kagawa, this entry refers specifically to the Zentsuji location. It’s a self-service shop with prepayment: take a tray, slide along picking toppings, receive your udon, pay, then eat; after eating, you return your dishes yourself. There are both tatami and chair seats, making it family-friendly. Access is about a 10-minute drive from JR Kotohira Station. Some people reserve an “udon taxi” and request Yamashita Udon to be taken efficiently to key udon shops in the area.
