Marusanya
Marusan-ya is a fish restaurant in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture. It always stocks seasonal seafood, and the highlight is being able to enjoy whatever is in season at the time. Their set meals let you taste the season as a whole, and the menu offers year-round specialties such as Echizen crab, seiko crab, Wakasa fugu, shell-on oysters, wild mountain vegetable tempura, rock oyster sashimi, and thinly sliced sanma. Because it’s operated directly by a fresh fish wholesaler, you can enjoy extremely fresh sashimi platters, seafood bowls, sushi, and many items that are only available in specific seasons. There is parking for about 10 cars, so if you don’t plan to drink alcohol, driving is also possible. It’s popular with both tourists and locals, so it’s best to go prepared to wait. Seating includes a counter as well as private rooms and sunken-kotatsu private rooms, so people of all ages—from children to seniors—can dine comfortably. They also provide children’s chairs and tableware, making it easy for families, and strollers are welcome too. Marusan-ya is about a 2-minute walk from JR Tsuruga Station on the JR Obama Line.
