Michi-no-Eki Akita Port is a multi-facility complex made up of three areas: Port Tower Selion, Selion Lista, and Selion Plaza. Access is about 25 minutes from Akita Station Bus Terminal (Stop 4) on the Selion Line, getting off at Selion. Port Tower Selion rises 100 meters above the ground, and from its 360-degree panoramic views you can look out over everything from the Oga Peninsula to central Akita City. You can enjoy sunsets sinking into the Sea of Japan and sparkling night views, and because admission is free, it is a must-stop highlight once you arrive. From 16:30 to 22:00, the tower is illuminated in seasonal colors that brighten Akita’s night sky. On the first floor, the local products market "Selion Garden" offers local vegetables and a wide range of Akita souvenirs, including kiritanpo, hatahata, Inaniwa udon, iburigakko, Yokote yakisoba, and many types of sake from rice-loving Akita. Also on the first floor are the restaurant "Selion Kitchen" and the grill shop "Tsuchizaki Minatoya." Selion Kitchen offers a deli buffet (currently suspended due to COVID-19 measures), while Tsuchizaki Minatoya serves seafood barbecue and customizable bowls such as "Okonomi Nokke-don" and "Okonomi Nokke-zushi" where you choose your own toppings. Other fun finds include an original "Babahera Soft" that turns the iconic Babahera ice’s crunchy texture into soft-serve form, and the udon/soba vending machine from Saharashoten that became famous after media coverage.
