Kaike Onsen
Kaike Onsen is a seaside hot spring town on the Sea of Japan coast in northern Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture. It is a scenic area selected for multiple distinctions, including “Japan’s 100 Best Beaches,” “Japan’s White Sand & Green Pine Beaches,” and “Japan’s Best Sunset/Sunrise Views,” among others. As a leading hot spring town in the San’in region, it offers a wide range of accommodations—from traditional ryokan to casual hotels and resort-style properties—so you can choose based on your needs. It’s also known as a “beautiful-skin” onsen, boasting an abundant flow rate of 4,456.5 liters per minute, which is high compared to many other areas. There are 19 sources in total, with high temperatures around 63–83°C. The water type is sodium-calcium chloride spring, and it is said to be beneficial not only for skin but also for conditions such as chronic gynecological issues, skin ailments, and rheumatism. Kaike is also known as a beach resort in summer, where you can enjoy both seaside leisure and hot springs—ideal for a longer, slower stay. Access: by train, take a local bus from JR San’in Main Line “Yonago Station” for about 20 minutes. There are highway/night buses to Yonago from Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka. By car, about 10 minutes from Yonago JCT via Route 431.
