Beppu Onsen Recreation Land Konya Hell
Beppu Onsen Hoyoland Konya Jigoku is the Konya Jigoku hot spring area in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. A hot spring and lodging facilities are located on the site where Konya Jigoku once existed. As a reminder that it used to be a “hell,” the path from reception to the baths is notably long, preserving traces of the former walking trail. This onsen is characterized by Konya mineral mud and is known as a mud bath. In addition to the mineral mud, there are colloidal baths, large public baths, steam baths, and a mixed-gender open-air mineral mud bath. The property has 25 guest rooms and also offers meals. Because the water is highly concentrated, long soaks are not recommended, and children are not allowed to enter the underground mineral mud bath. Since some guests stay multiple nights for long-term treatment of illnesses, it is called a “hot spring health retreat land.” For that reason, it is considered a bath you will want to experience at least once when visiting Beppu Onsen. Also note that the sulfur smell can be hard to remove, so be careful with towels and similar items. The indoor mud bathhouse, unchanged since before the war, has a distinctive atmosphere and is very enjoyable. Access to Beppu Onsen Hoyoland Konya Jigoku is about a 25-minute drive from Beppu Station.
