Naochan Chicken Namban Restaurant
Naochan is the original restaurant credited as the birthplace of Miyazaki’s famous “Chicken Nanban.” Unlike the now-common style topped with tartar sauce, Naochan serves chicken nanban without tartar; many tartar-style variants are said to have branched from this origin. The restaurant uses carefully selected ingredients from Miyazaki. Popular set meals include the sweet-vinegar “Chicken Nanban Teishoku” served with mustard or yuzu kosho, the “Hyuga chicken tataki-style teishoku,” and the juicy “whole thigh oven-baked teishoku.” The miso soup in the set meals is also highly regarded—perfect alongside pressure-cooked rice. Access: by public transportation, about a 3-minute walk from JR Nippo Main Line “Nobeoka Station.” By car, about 12 minutes (approx. 5 km) from Higashi-Kyushu Expressway “Nobeoka IC” via Prefectural Route 16 and Myth Road / Route 218.
