Yokohama Bay Bridge

Yokohama Bay Bridge is one of the world’s largest cable-stayed bridges, opened in 1989. It has a double-deck structure: the upper deck is the Bayshore Route of the Shuto Expressway, and the lower deck is National Route 357. Note that pedestrians and motorized bicycles of 125cc or less cannot cross it, including the national road portion. If you can’t visit by car, the promenade “Yokohama Sky Walk” is recommended. From the “Sky Tower” on the Daikoku Pier side, you go up onto the bridge and walk along the “Sky Promenade” toward the observation area “Sky Lounge” beneath the roadway at a bridge pier. You can’t go all the way across, but if you’re lucky, you may see large cruise ships passing close by. Night illumination is also a highlight: it is usually white, but the upper parts of the main towers switch to blue between :20–:30 and :50–:00 each hour, so watch for that. Location: between Honmoku Junction and Daikoku Junction on the Shuto Expressway Bayshore Route.
