Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum
The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum is a museum in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, opened to realize sculptor Isamu Noguchi’s wishes in Mure Town, where he established his studio. It is a garden museum featuring sculptures, and you can see many works in the garden. It is also famous for having been visited by the Emperor and Empress. Admission is by advance reservation only—apply to the atelier so that your request arrives about 10 days before your desired visit date (via round-trip postcard, fax, or email). The site includes exhibition storehouses, the Isamu House, the sculpture garden, and the atelier. Visits are guided, with explanations provided during the one-hour tour. Kagawa Prefecture has many Isamu Noguchi sculptures and they are familiar to locals. Playground equipment seen in places like Moerenuma Park can also be found at nearby Sanshoyama Park and Takamatsu Chuo Park, and in Kanonji’s Ichinomiya Park there is an “Play with Isamu Noguchi” area. Access is about a 20-minute walk from Kotoden Yashima Station.
