Takekyo is a udon shop in Takamatsu City, best known for its soft-boiled egg tempura. With kake udon available for 170 yen per portion, it’s popular with everyone from young people to office workers. It’s a self-service shop where you pour your own broth. If you’re eating it cold, you can simply pour broth over it as-is. If you want it piping hot, there is a warming station: place the noodles into a basket for about 3 seconds, drain, then add broth. Tempura is fried after you order, so you can always enjoy freshly fried tempura—making it a highly satisfying shop for both heart and wallet. While Sanuki broth is typically based on iriko (dried sardines), Takekyo blends urume, iriko, and kombu. It’s usually busy, and on holidays the line can stretch behind the shop, but because it’s an udon shop the turnover is fast. Access is about a 10-minute drive from JR Takamatsu Station. Rental bicycles from the station help you efficiently visit nearby sightseeing spots.
