Kehi no Matsubara
Kehi no Matsubara is a scenic spot in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture. It is considered one of Japan’s Three Great Pine Groves and is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. As part of the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park, it is also one element of Minato Oasis Tsuruga. With a long history mentioned in works such as the "Manyoshu" and "Nihon Shoki," it has been recognized in many ways, including selections like "Japan’s Top 100 White Sand & Green Pine Landscapes," "Japan’s Top 100 Pine Forests," and "Japan’s Top 100 Natural Sites." In summer it becomes the municipal Matsubara Beach and bustles with swimmers, while in other seasons it attracts visitors enjoying walks along its promenade. The walking paths feature various monuments, and you can stroll while enjoying the grand scenery of the Sea of Japan, white sand, and pine forest. It is also popular as a fishing spot. In summer, fireworks and a lantern-floating event are held, keeping the area lively. Compared to many scenic spots, it also has plenty of toilets, which is reassuring for visitors. To reach Kehi no Matsubara, it is about a 10-minute drive from Tsuruga IC. Taking a taxi from Atsuga Station costs around 1,200 yen one-way.
