Yokosuka Museum of Art

Yokosuka Museum of Art opened in 2007 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yokosuka City’s incorporation. It is surrounded by nature, nestled between Kanonzaki Prefectural Park and Tokyo Bay, and the building itself is an open, artful space designed to let visitors feel the surrounding environment—featuring countless round openings in ceilings and walls. The museum holds about 5,000 works, including pieces by artists connected to Yokosuka and the Miura Peninsula, artworks themed on the region, seascapes, and collections that help you understand modern and contemporary Japanese art. Notable works include Kishida Ryusei’s “Portrait of Kimura Shohachi,” Fujishima Takeji’s “Assisi Landscape,” and Nakamura Tsune’s “Atelier in Ochiai.” Inside the museum is a restaurant produced by Chef Yoshimi Hidaka of the Italian restaurant “Acqua Pazza,” where you can enjoy high-quality original dishes using locally sourced seafood and vegetables. Access: take a Keikyu bus and get off at “Kanonzaki Keikyu Hotel / Yokosuka Museum of Art Mae,” then walk about 2 minutes, or get off at “Kanonzaki” and walk about 5 minutes.
