Minato-no-Mieru-Oka Park
Harbor View Park (Minato no Mieru Oka Koen) is a park on a hill overlooking Yokohama Port. The land was requisitioned by occupation forces after World War II, but after it was returned, Yokohama City developed it and opened the park in 1962. The name was inspired by the hit song “Minato ga Mieru Oka” released in 1948. It is an excellent viewpoint for the Yokohama Bay Bridge, and it also includes buildings designated as Yokohama City cultural properties, such as the “Yokohama British House” and “Yamate 111 House.” The park is also known as a spot to enjoy roses. In areas such as the “English Rose Garden,” which features mixed plantings of annuals and perennials, and the sunken “Fragrant Garden,” you can admire beautifully maintained roses. The best seasons are twice a year: mid-May to mid-June, and mid-October to mid-November—so if you visit Yokohama during those periods, be sure to check it out. Access: about a 20-minute walk from Ishikawacho Station (JR Keihin-Tohoku / Negishi Line), or about a 5-minute walk from Motomachi-Chukagai Station (Minatomirai Line).
