Ritsurin Garden

Ritsurin Garden is a stroll-style daimyo garden in Takamatsu City and is designated as a prefectural urban park (historical park). Located at the foot of Mt. Shiun, this 400-year-old garden consists of six ponds and thirteen artificial hills. With Mt. Shiun as a backdrop, its beauty is said to rival Japan’s three great gardens, and it was even used as a filming location for the movie “Haru no Yuki.” It is spacious—about 3.5 times the size of the Tokyo Dome. With abundant ponds, the water flowing down from Mt. Shiun creates waterfall-like scenes as it pours into the ponds, a view you can watch endlessly. It has also earned three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan, drawing visitors from Japan and abroad every day. Its hours are set from sunrise to sunset to avoid artificial lighting that would spoil the scenery. At Hanazono-tei inside the garden, rice porridge breakfast is served from 7:00, allowing you to enjoy breakfast while viewing the morning glow over the ponds and the garden. Ritsurin Garden is a 5-minute walk from Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen Station.
