Wakasa Fisherman's Wharf

Wakasa Fisherman’s Wharf is a complex facility in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture where you can enjoy meals, buy souvenirs, and take cruises. On the cruise, you can see sights including Sotomo (Sotomon), a scenic area of strange rock formations, as well as sea caves such as Omon (Big Gate) and Komon (Small Gate), plus spots like Meoto Kameiwa (Couple Turtle Rocks), Shishiiwa (Lion Rock), and Tosenjima (Chinese Ship Island). Because the coastline is a nationally designated scenic area, you can view up close the dramatic landscape formed as waves eroded granite columnar joints, making it very impressive. On the second floor is the seafood restaurant Kaikou-en, and on the first floor is the sushi shop "Toretore Sushi," where you can enjoy fresh seafood. There is also a shop for souvenirs, so you can easily spend a whole day here. The cruise fare is 2,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for children. There’s also Wakasa-Obama Umi-no-Eki (sea station) for those arriving by yacht or cruiser, so it’s accessible from both land and sea. It’s about a 15-minute walk from JR Obama Station, and there are plenty of taxis around for tourists, reflecting its popularity.
