道の駅 よしうみいきいき館
Roadside Station Yoshiumi Iki-Iki Kan is a roadside station on the Oshima side, visible just below right after crossing the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge from the Imabari side. It is about a 5-minute drive from the Shimanami Kaido Oshima-Minami IC. A major attraction is the seafood BBQ where visitors choose fish and shellfish from live tanks in the fresh seafood corner and grill them on a shichirin charcoal grill. In winter, there is also an all-you-can-eat grilled oyster option. Solo travelers or small groups may prefer ordering set meals and rice bowls in the restaurant. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the station also features live demonstrations/sales of “”jakoten,”” a local Ehime fried fish cake. The “”Kurushima Kaikyo Rapid Current Sightseeing Boat”” departing from Shitadami Port can be booked through the shop inside Yoshiumi Iki-Iki Kan. From the boat, you may spot marine life such as dolphins if you’re lucky, and on spring tide days you can sometimes see large whirlpools called “”Hachiman-u,”” over 10 meters in diameter. The information desk also has part-time English-speaking staff, so visitors can ask for help if needed.
