Beppu "Jigoku Meguri" Hells Tour

Beppu Jigoku Meguri (Beppu Hell Tour) refers to visiting the “jigoku” hot spring sources in Beppu Onsen in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. It is Beppu’s top sightseeing attraction, drawing many visitors every day, and joining a bus tour is a common way to enjoy it. There are seven jigoku: Umi Jigoku, Chinoike Jigoku, Tatsumaki Jigoku, Shiraike Jigoku, Oniishi Bozu Jigoku, Oniyama Jigoku (Crocodile Hell), and Kamado Jigoku. With the common ticket, you can visit all of them; if you only want to visit one site, it can also be done for 400 yen. While the surrounding area has many hot springs, the hell tour sites also include open-air baths and family baths available for an additional fee. One enjoyable point of the tour is that a bus guide is included—often an upbeat guide who supports the trip, making bus travel a recommended option. The name “jigoku” comes from the image of hellishly hot water boiling up. You can also enjoy treats like pudding and boiled eggs steamed by the geothermal heat. Access is about a 15-minute drive from Beppu Station.
