Daio Wasabi Farm

Daio Wasabi Farm is a popular sightseeing spot that is open year-round with free admission. It is packed with photogenic highlights such as the SNS-famous “wasabi soft-serve ice cream” and beautiful waterside waterwheel huts used as movie filming locations. The farm offers a well-rounded experience based on “see, eat, and try.” You can enjoy the scenery of Japan’s largest wasabi fields, and on clear days take in views of the Northern Alps from an observation deck. Then you can fill up on local specialties like wasabi soft-serve and Shinshu soba served with wasabi. For hands-on memories, you can try making your own chopsticks or making wasabi pickles. Other worthwhile stops include “Daio Shrine,” which enshrines the farm’s guardian deity “Gishi Oni Hachimen Daio,” and the “100th Anniversary Hall” built to commemorate 100 years since the wasabi field development began in 1917. Wasabi is not only a seasoning that adds flavor—it is also known for antibacterial properties against bacteria such as O-157, and is drawing attention as a natural food additive. The site has ample parking (25 large vehicles and 350 standard cars), making it easy for families with children to visit, and the spacious grounds can keep you entertained for a full day. Pets are also allowed, so it can be fun to stroll together.
