Naoshima
Naoshima is an island in Naoshima Town, Kagawa Prefecture. It is globally famous as an “art island” in the Seto Inland Sea and is popular with visitors. It attracts many tourists not only from Japan but also from overseas, and you can already see crowds of international visitors at the ferry terminal heading to Naoshima. It is one of the Naoshima archipelago’s 27 islands. With major art sites like the Chichu Art Museum and Benesse House, and events like the Setouchi Triennale, the entire island has become an art destination. The whole island is full of highlights, but the red pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama at the ferry terminal is especially famous. On the opposite side of the island, you can also see the yellow pumpkin. Other must-sees include the Art House Project, I♥湯, Umi no Eki, and Naoshima Pavilion. Renting a bicycle is recommended to get around and enjoy the dense concentration of art. Access: about 50 minutes by ferry from Takamatsu Port to Naoshima.
