Kinryo Sake
Kinryo no Sato is a sake museum in Kotohira Town, Kagawa Prefecture. The sake brewery Kinryo operates it as a museum along the approach to Konpira-san. At Sanshukan, a monument welcomes you where sake is poured from a large “big bottle,” and the receiving masu cup is as big as a small bathtub. Inside Sanshukan, tools used for sake brewing in the Edo period are displayed, while the Culture Hall introduces the history and culture of alcohol in Japan from the Yayoi period onward. In the courtyard, there is a large camphor tree said to be a sacred “goshinboku,” which is hard to see from the busy approach, but you can view it by entering Kinryo no Sato and passing through to the courtyard. It’s a hidden spot to rest away from the crowded approach. There is also a legend that long ago, a tengu who saved people rested under Kinryo’s camphor tree before returning to Mt. Zozu. You can enjoy free tastings and buy souvenirs such as Kinryo sake and Kinryo monaka. There are also nostalgic Showa-era display exhibits that evoke a sense of history. Kinryo no Sato is about a 10-minute walk from Kotohira Station.
