Ichiroku Honpo Dogo Honkan-mae Store is a sweets shop located directly in front of Dogo Onsen Honkan. Ichiroku Honpo is well known for selling the Matsuyama signature confection “”Ichiroku Tart.”” The tart was inspired by a Portuguese-style tart that Lord Sadayuki Matsudaira of the Matsuyama domain ate while visiting Nagasaki. The original concept was a sponge cake roll spread with jam, but it was adapted into a version filled with sweet bean paste, with yuzu (a Shikoku specialty citrus) added inside the bean paste. It resembles a roll cake, and its swirl is shaped like the Japanese hiragana “”の.”” At this location, the 1st floor is the shop and the 2nd floor is the dining-and-café space “”Ichiroku Saryo.”” Ichiroku Saryo offers photogenic sweets and drinks available only here, making it a fun stop for smartphone photos. There is also an eat-in space on the 1st floor. Because it stays open late, it’s convenient to drop by after a bath.
