Chaharu is a ryokan located in the Dogo Onsen district, just a 1-minute walk from the historic Dogo Onsen Honkan bathhouse. It is the only inn in the Dogo Onsen area with a rooftop (10th-floor) open-air bath, offering panoramic views over Matsuyama City. The hot spring water is an alkaline simple thermal spring, said to be effective for conditions such as neuralgia and muscle pain. On Saturday and Sunday nights, the women’s bath sometimes features a rose bath. Chaharu also has a special room connected to “”Dogo Onsen Art 2014,”” called “”Hotel Horizontal: Fujio Ishimoto × Chaharu ‘Suuri Taiga / Great Prairie’,”” decorated with textile and ceramic works by Fujio Ishimoto (from Tobe, Ehime), who worked with brands such as Marimekko and Arabia (now Iittala). This room can be stayed in, and when unoccupied during daytime, non-guests can visit for 700 yen + tax. Ishimoto collaboration works can also be seen in private rooms at the on-site restaurant “”La Cuisine Japonaise HARI,”” which serves Italian and Spanish-inspired cuisine. After a 2018 renovation, the 9th-floor executive floor also includes rooms featuring Marimekko textiles, making this a particularly appealing option for guests who enjoy design and interior aesthetics.
