Kinrin Lake
Kinrinko Lake is a lake in Yufuin, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture, also known as Takemoto-no-Ike. It is a signature sightseeing spot of Yufuin, and is said to have been named by Mori Kusou. In the morning, mist often forms over the lake, creating one of Yufuin’s iconic landscapes. Cafes line the lakeside, making it a pleasant sightseeing area. The lake’s perimeter is about 0.8 hectares, and a leisurely walk around it is also recommended. Because hot spring water also wells up from the lake bottom, the water does not become as cold even in winter; on winter mornings you may see steam rising from the surface. Wrapped in nature and morning glow, it’s a popular spot where visitors can enjoy a relaxed travel mood. Nearby, you can also visit Yufuin Onsen, Yufuin Floral Village, and the Marc Chagall Yufuin Kinrinko Museum of Art as a set, or combine it with a stay in Yufuin. Be sure to experience the morning mist that can only be seen early in the day. Access is about a 10-minute drive from Yufuin Station.
