Shikoku Aquarium

Shikoku Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Shikoku, opened in 2020. It’s a next-generation aquarium that showcases the character of Shikoku, an island surrounded by sea. In its huge tank (11 m wide and 5.5 m high), around 20 kinds of schooling fish swim, and you can look up at a group of scalloped hammerhead sharks from below. It also recreates whirlpools and features fish that live beneath them, and includes freshwater fish themed after the Shimanto River. There is also a zone inspired by Ryugu (the Dragon Palace). The biggest highlight is the dolphin show with the Seto Inland Sea as a backdrop; in the dolphin pool, dolphins swim close enough to feel within reach. There’s also a Dolphin Hall where you can view dolphins underwater. The museum shop sells unique items like “shark udon” and hammerhead shark wasanbon sweets. There are dining areas too, offering not only Sanuki specialties but also aquarium-themed menu items, making it enjoyable for both kids and adults. A cutting-edge AI also answers visitors’ questions about fish. Seasonal “Night Aquarium” events are also recommended. The exterior is stylish, giving it a futuristic feel. Access is about a 12-minute walk from Utazu Station.
