Azumasushi Okayama Station
Azuma Sushi Okayama Station Front Branch is a long-established sushi restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the Sun Station Okayama South Building, right by JR Okayama Station. It is highly rated on restaurant reservation/review sites, and the fact that you can enjoy excellent sushi in front of the station makes it busy every day. Founded in 1912 (Meiji 45), it has continued to serve mainly ingredients from Okayama, a region blessed with great food products. The menu is very extensive, and there are set options with different price ranges depending on the grade of the toppings—so if you’re unsure what to order, choosing a set is recommended over ordering items individually. One must-try local item when visiting Okayama is “sawara” (Spanish mackerel) from the Seto Inland Sea, and it is of course on the menu. There are both table seats and counter seats, so even solo diners can enjoy a meal without worrying about being noticed. Because it’s right near the station, some people also choose it as a second stop after drinking elsewhere. Eating great sushi while tipsy might feel wasteful—but it’s something you might want to try at least once.
