Enoshima Sea Candle
The Enoshima Observation Lighthouse, affectionately known as “Enoshima Sea Candle,” is a symbol of Enoshima. It is located within the Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden and is Japan’s first privately operated lighthouse managed by Enoshima Electric Railway. It reopened after renovation in 2003 as part of the Enoden 100th anniversary project. The tower is 59.8 meters tall and has a distinctive inverted-triangle silhouette that widens toward the top. At 41.7 meters is a glass-enclosed observation floor, and above it is an outdoor deck. From there you can see the Shonan sea, and on clear days even Mt. Fuji. The first floor includes a cafe, a goods shop, and a local history room. It is also the main venue for “Shonan no Hoseki,” recognized as one of the Kanto region’s three major illuminations. From November to March, you can enjoy a massive “space of light” illumination spanning over 70 meters in diameter. Access: about a 20-minute walk from Katase-Enoshima Station (Odakyu Enoshima Line) or about a 25-minute walk from Enoshima Station (Enoden).
