African Safari
African Safari is one of Japan’s largest safari-park-style zoos, located in Usa City, Oita Prefecture. Its official name is Kyushu Natural Animal Park African Safari. The main highlight is the Jungle Bus, where visitors ride an animal-shaped bus and, over 50 minutes, can watch animals living in natural settings and feed them. During major holiday periods, a night safari is also offered and is extremely popular with tourists. The zoo features a roughly 6-kilometer safari road where you can see a wide variety of animals, and in the interaction zone you can touch animals including kangaroos. Horseback riding experiences are also available. The park is well equipped with dining options and souvenir shops, allowing both children and adults to enjoy a full day. Around 70 species and 1,300 animals live at African Safari, with habitats recreated to resemble their native environments. Access to African Safari is about a 50-minute bus ride from JR Beppu Station.
