Oita Marine Palace Aquarium Umitamago
Oita Marine Palace Aquarium “Umitamago” is an aquarium located along the coast in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, affectionately known as “Umitamago.” It exhibits around 500 species and 15,000 marine animals. A pedestrian crossing connects it directly to Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, making it especially popular with families. Highlights include divers entering massive tanks filled with some of the world’s largest living corals and tropical fish, feeding shows in the 8-meter-high, 65-meter-circumference main tank, dolphin performances, and entertaining fish acts. Dolphin shows are so close that splashes reach the audience, creating an immersive experience. There are also areas showcasing frozen sharks and hands-on touch pools, delighting children and adults alike. Access to Umitamago is about a 15-minute bus ride from JR Beppu Station.
