KAMIKOCHI IMPERIAL HOTEL

Kamikochi Imperial Hotel is Japan’s first full-scale mountain resort hotel, renowned for its history and high service quality. In the lobby, a very large fireplace and the iconic mantelpiece create a strong sense of presence. There are 74 rooms in total across seven types, including twins, family rooms, suites, and rooms with balconies—styled with warm wood tones that blend with Kamikochi’s nature. Dining options include French cuisine, Japanese cuisine, a café, and a Swiss mountain-hut-inspired bar where you can enjoy fine liquors and cocktails. As a high-end hotel, rates are on the expensive side, but many feel the value exceeds the price thanks to the natural setting, views, excellent meals, and above all, the hospitality of the staff. There are important nature-area constraints: private cars are restricted, so you must park partway and enter by route bus or taxi. After 18:00, entry is completely prohibited, so you must check in by 18:00. The hotel operates seasonally, typically from late April to mid-November each year—plan dates carefully. The environment is carefully protected, and it’s a stay worth experiencing at least once.
