道後温泉 大和屋本店
Dogo Onsen Yamatoya Honten is a large traditional ryokan founded in 1868, located in the heart of the Dogo Onsen district. The building has 10 floors above ground and one basement level, offering a wide range of accommodations including Western-style single rooms suitable for solo travelers and business guests. A highlight for guests is “”Yamatoyatai,”” a complimentary snack and sake corner available to overnight guests, completed in January 2021 through crowdfunding. The women’s open-air bath features a rugged tub carved from a single stone, while the men’s open-air bath offers a relaxing hinoki cypress bath overlooking a garden. Bathing hours extend until 2:00 a.m., ideal for night owls or travelers adjusting to time differences. Dinner is served at restaurants or traditional dining venues near the Noh theater “”Senjuden,”” with Japanese, Western, Chinese, and fusion courses available. The on-site Noh theater also hosts regular performances and hands-on workshops, offering guests a unique cultural experience.
