Experience details
Start at the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, a popular Shinto shrine in Kamakura. Then, head to Hase-ji Temple, located on a hill in Kamakura. Admire the golden, standing statue of the Great Buddha in its main hall. After checking out the story behind this statue, visit the cave temple, a hidden gem within the temple. In the dimly lit cave, lit by candlelight, the stone Buddhas maintain their serene dignity.
After leaving Hase Temple, the next stop is Kotokuin Temple, known for the Great Buddha of Kamakura. The Great Buddha is said to have been built more than 800 years ago, and has remained there through the stormy waves of history, losing the buildings that covered its body.
