The history of tatami is very of long, with those similar to the present-day version having already been used 1300 years ago. When it comes to tatami, the smell of soft rush, the texture, the calming atmosphere...it has been an indispensible part of Japanese life up until now. Through this experience, we hope you too can feel a part of that history yourself♪

Long ago, tatami was weaved by hand. With advancements in the current age, the process has shifted to primarily using dedicated machines, but even today, craftsmanship remains an important factor. To make the mini tatami, we will use those age old techniques to have you make your very own, one-of-a-kind tatami mat!

Certainly please make use of your tatami mat at home. You could use it as a decorative platform for accessories or use it to serve tea to guests. How you use it is up to you!

Situated right next door to the workshop is the jointly-run, full tatami, wood construction guesthouse, Fujitatami.
