If you come to Hiroshima, you definitely want to eat some local gourmet food back home.
Not only teppan okonomiyaki, but there are many other delicious foods in Hiroshima. Even if you cannot eat all of them, you should try at least five of them. Of course, there are also sweets as souvenirs, so you can enjoy the taste of Hiroshima even after you return home.
But if you have come all the way to Hiroshima, be sure to leave with a full "food" experience as well.

Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki, the iron plate of Hiroshima gourmet food, is characterized by okonomiyaki that even includes noodles inside the okonomiyaki. It is the soul food of Hiroshima, so much so that there are okonomimura (okonomi-villages) and buildings filled with okonomiyaki shops.

Yagenbori Hasshou

Yagenbori Hasshou is one of the best okonomiyaki restaurants in Hiroshima.
The teppan-yaki style okonomiyaki is cooked in front of you so quickly (and so smartly) that it is almost divine. There is always a long line of people waiting to get in, but the turnover is fast because there is a fixed order of food. There are counter seats and tatami rooms, but I recommend the counter seats because you can watch the powerful okonomiyaki being made right in front of you.

The oysters are delicious too!

During the season of oysters, etc., they grill whole oysters, which are delicious even raw, to a plump plumpness.
Try the golden combination of okonomiyaki, beer, and oysters!

Oyster

Farmed in Hiroshima are oysters called maki oysters, which are famous for their rich flavor.
The season is from fall to winter, and the best oysters are available until the end of March.
In Hiroshima, where oysters are cultivated extensively, menus featuring oysters are served in many places.

I recommend oyster huts.

This is a restaurant open only when oysters are in season, where you can grill and eat oysters. Oysters are displayed in a bold manner, and you grill and eat them by yourself. The all-you-can-eat restaurant is basically self-service with condiments, simple plates, and drinks. Even though it is self-service, if you are not familiar with oysters, you will be given a lecture on how to grill them.
Restaurant-style restaurants are like barbecue restaurants, where you order what you like and grill it as much as you like.

Hiroshima Oyster Road

This site introduces restaurants where you can enjoy cheap and delicious oysters to your heart's content, mainly along the Seto Inland Sea coast of Hiroshima. Try as much as you like of the oysters unique to Hiroshima, which has the highest production rate in Japan. Some restaurants are only open during the season, while others are open all year round, so if you come to Hiroshima during the season, by all means, choose a restaurant that is only open during the season.

Himaneki no Sato Kure Haikara Shokudo

This restaurant is popular not only for its curry, but also for the actual food that the Maritime Self-Defense Force eats, as it not only faithfully reproduces the taste of the curry, but even the milk. Of course, the plates are also nautical.
The depth of love for Kure can be felt at this restaurant, which also displays a triple machine gun used in the movie "Yamato for Men" and a 1/30 scale model of the battleship Yamato.

Horumon Tempura is a B gourmet dish of Hiroshima.
It is hormone tempura, which is made from hormone, and it is a variety of textures that can be enjoyed and is plainly delicious. If you have never had it before, you will be able to taste a new texture.
The appearance of the tempura may make you wonder which one is which when you first try it, but many people choose one and cut it themselves with a knife on a cutting board to eat. The stores are concentrated in Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City.

Tempura Akichan

This is a novel style of restaurant with a knife and cutting board right in front of your seat. However, it is a standard style at hormone tempura restaurants in Hiroshima. The tempura is cut into bite-sized pieces and eaten.

Momiji Manju

One of Hiroshima's most popular souvenirs is a bun filled with sweet bean paste in the shape of a maple tree.
It has such a strong presence that it swallows up all the moisture in your mouth, and everyone has probably had one at least once.

However, a revolution is taking place in this momiji bun.

Fresh Momiji

Hiroshima Lemon Cake

Lemon cakes made from Hiroshima lemons, a famous lemon-producing region, are also popular.
Hiroshima lemons are used in all lemon cakes, from the slightly special ones available at supermarkets and convenience stores to the more upscale ones at souvenir shops, so it is recommended to find your own favorite flavor.

Makitate Shikaku,fig

Lemon cake in the shape of a lemon is good, but we also recommend this lemon cake from Sei Yogashi Mukagashi.
The square shaped lemon cakes are coated with lemon syrup and moistened to make them exceptionally delicious.
Each one is large enough to fill you up, which is another high point!

Anago-meshi

Anagome-meshi is a local Hiroshima dish made with anago (eel) instead of unaju (eel), and is one of the must-try dishes when visiting Hiroshima. Originally a boxed lunch served at train stations, anago meshi has become an indispensable local dish.
The sweet conger eel baked plump on top of the rice and served with white rice is well known for its delicious taste.

Anago-meshi Ueno

This is the oldest and most famous anago meshi restaurant. Not only is the anago carefully selected and exquisite, but the rice cooked in anago (conger eel) broth is also delicious. Even if you have more rice, you can eat just the rice. Bento boxes are good, but you should eat anago meshi inside the restaurant.

Conclusion

Take home what you can, taste what you can only taste there, and if that is not possible, adjust your sightseeing days so that you can fully enjoy the charm of Hiroshima's gourmet food with your whole body. You will surely be satisfied both physically and mentally!
