Mihara Castle Ruins

Mihara Castle was built by the Kobayakawa clan in 1567. Only a part of the castle as it was built can be seen today; other parts have been destroyed, but at that time it was quite large compared to other castles in the area. It is said that the size and breadth of the castle immediately after its construction was as large as 900m in length and 700m in width. Compared to Hiroshima Castle, which is the most famous castle in Hiroshima Prefecture, the Mihara Castle was overwhelmingly large, and it is hard to imagine how large a structure it is today. Mihara Castle is sometimes called "Ukishiro (floating castle) "because it appears to float on the sea at high tide. The ruins of the middle gate, stonewalls, remains of a splintered roof, and the remains of a funairi tower still remain.
