Kinin Park / Shikanoshima

Shikanoshima Island is located in the northwestern part of Fukuoka City. It is accessible by land from Uminonakamichi, making it an easy spot to visit. On the island, there is an observatory from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of Fukuoka City and a park where a monument commemorating the discovery of the golden seal, a national treasure, has been built. The island also has deep historical ties, with "Shiga Kaijinsha, the head shrine of the sea gods, "and 10 Manyo poetry monuments. The island is only about 11 km in circumference, so it is easy to get around. You can also rent a bicycle and enjoy cycling while feeling the fresh sea breeze.

Historic island overlooking calm Hakata Bay

The "gold seal "is a national treasure that appears in history textbooks. In the Edo period, a gold seal "of the King of the Han Chinese Nuns "was discovered by a farmer on Shiga Island. After passing through the Kuroda family, who were lords of the Chikuzen domain, it was later donated to the city and is now in the collection of the Fukuoka City Museum. "A stone monument and a replica of the gold seal are displayed next to the monument in the Golden Seal Park ".
